To fulfil an executive mandate for wide staff involvement in defining their workspace, BBC Property commissioned ZZA to formulate a meaningful strategy for inclusive briefing consultation at the organisation’s extensive scale.

Working with the BBC’s New Media department, ZZA devised a cost-effective process that enlisted staff in a framework of managed fit-out choices. We then evolved the tool to engage with almost twenty departments that were relocating to the new Media Centre at White City. ZZA’s approach provided a degree of user influence on fit-out elements in localised parts of the building, enabling groups to express their distinctive identities and operational modes within the building’s overall coherent look and feel.

ZZA also undertook research with staff in BBC Scotland’s former Queen Margaret Drive accommodation, using the outputs to inform the project ambitions and the competition brief for what followed as the award-winning new building at Pacific Quay.
