Tall Buildings

Tall buildings are inherently resource-intensive, but offer valuable scope for urban compaction. ZZA has contributed significant understanding of the positive potentials, widening the framework beyond the UK’s planning focus on heritage issues.

Inputting to strategic review of tall building policy in London, ZZA researched the diversity of stakeholder opinion, through interviews, discussions and forums with politicians, corporate occupiers, investors, economists, developers, urban designers, architects, planners and heritage specialists – as well as residents, workers and passers-by.

Focusing on corporate occupiers, the BCO commissioned ZZA to research business drivers for taking tall space. Following this, ZZA’s rounded focus on building use, urban design and sustainability informed ‘Tall Buildings: A Strategic Design Guide’, edited by Ziona Strelitz. Our continued work on tall buildings shows the scope that technical development and knowledge of user experience afford in achieving the sustainable benefits that tall buildings can offer.
